Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Deputy Manager for our Ofsted registered Children's Home. The Deputy Manager will play a crucial role in supporting the Registered Manager in the day-to-day operations of the home, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing exceptional care for the children and young people under our supervision.


1.       Support to Registered Manager:

-          Collaborate closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the Children's Home.

-          Act as the Registered Manager in their absence and assist in the overall management of the home.


1.       Compliance and Regulation:

-          Assist in maintaining full compliance with all Ofsted regulations and standards.

-          Ensure accurate record-keeping and documentation in accordance with statutory requirements.


1.       Child-Centred Care:

-          Contribute to the development and implementation of individual care plans and risk assessments for each child.

-          Build positive relationships with children, their families, and relevant stakeholders, offering support and guidance.


1.       Staff Management:

-          Supervise and support staff members, providing leadership, guidance and feedback as needed, to ensure that they provide the best possible care and support to the children.

-          Assist in recruitment, training, and performance management processes.


1.       Quality Assurance:

-          Participate in monitoring and evaluating the quality of care provided, recommending improvements.

-          Help implement quality assurance systems and practices to maintain high standards.


1.       Safeguarding and Risk Management:

-          Assist in the development and implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures.

-          Support incident management and resolution, ensuring the safety of the children.


1.       Financial Oversight:

-          Collaborate with the Registered Manager in managing the budget efficiently and responsibly.

-          Contribute to financial reporting and expenditure control in line with organisational guidelines.


Qualifications, Experience and Requirements

  •      Must be over 21 years of age due to Ofsted regulations.
  • A minimum of two years’ previous experience in a supervisory or deputy role within an Ofsted regulated Children's Home setting.
  • Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare or Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care for Children and Young People or equivalent.
  •  Familiarity with and a thorough understanding of, relevant legislation and regulations governing Children's Homes.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  •  Effective verbal and written communication abilities skills in order to communicate effectively with carers, children, families and colleagues
  • Understanding and knowledge of Therapeutic Approach to Childcare
  • Capable of both working independently and collaboratively with others.
  • A commitment to providing high-quality care and support to children.
  • A willingness to work flexible hours and participate in an on-call rota.
  • Flexible and able to demonstrate resilience in challenging situations.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
